SunDensity backs Rochester by establishing headquarters, R&D facilities in Sibley Square

SunDensity is set to open its R&D lab and headquarters in Sibley Square downtown, a move company leaders said will boost the regional economy and add jobs.

Named the 2020 Luminate NY Company of the Year, SunDensity will hold a grand opening of its new 6,000-square-foot space on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The business produces Photonic Smart Coating for utility solar power producers that enhances optical processes and reduces the cost of energy.

SunDensity had been in temporary space in the building but made an investment —including site enhancements as well as new equipment — in the new location.

Nishikant ‘Nish’ Sonwalkar, SunDensity’s founder, president and chief technology officer, said the company’s smart coating converts light into electricity more efficiently than the current methods in the marketplace.

The smart coating can also reduce the cost of production, which could then, in turn, enable the widespread adoption of solar energy to reduce carbon emissions, he explained…
