The challenge: different frequencies are beneficial, or detrimental, depending upon the application. For instance, UV light enhances the growth of some crops and promotes Vitamin D creation in humans. However, it is also destructive. If allowed to penetrate a building, it will fade the coloring of carpets, fabrics, and furniture. If allowed to penetrate a solar modules UV will cause micro-cracking of photovoltaic (PV) cells and create energy loss due to wasted heat.

SunDensity has taken a unique approach to increasing the efficiency of solar modules and cells. Rather than modify the cell semiconductor, we modify the solar spectrum to better match the optimum sensitivity for the cell.

SunDensity has developed a patented, proprietary Photonic Smart Coating (PSCโ„ข), a proprietary stack of materials, coated on the glass, that โ€œdownshiftsโ€ the higher energy Blue Light (UV) to Red Light (Infrared). This creates the optimum wavelength for conversion to electricity for solar modules. Blue light typically does not get converted to electricity, but results in wasted heat, degrading solar cell performance over time.
